The Rothman Center

The Rothman Center for Outpatient Care
The Rothman Center at JFK Medical Center is a four-story, $12.5 million project that opened its doors in April 1996 to provide a full range of cutting-edge health care services on an outpatient basis, all under one roof. The center is named for Phyllis and George Rothman in recognition of their $1 million gift toward its construction.

On the first floor of the Rothman Center, all patients receiving same-day, outpatient procedures go through the admitting and registration process. Pre-admission testing and teaching for surgery is done at the same site. In addition, the first floor offers a quaint coffee shop that is a convenient respite for patients and visitors.

A state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center on the second floor includes six large operating rooms that are endoscopically-equipped for minimally-invasive surgery. A sterile corridor connects the outpatient surgery area to the inpatient surgery suites in the main hospital, so that surgeons can go directly from the main hospital operating rooms to the outpatient suites between cases. More than 9,000 patients a year receive outpatient surgeries involving more than 200 individual procedures. The surgical services department at JFK Medical Center was the first in South Florida to perform laparoscopic laser cholecystectomy, a minimally invasive gallbladder surgery.

More than 300 patients each month visit JFK's cardiac rehabilitation program, one of the largest in the country. Located on the third floor of the Rothman Center, the center offers a cardiac exercise center and a classroom/training area staffed with a team of cardiac rehab specialists, including registered nurses, exercise physiologists, nutritionists and other cardiac rehab specialists.

The Phyllis Rothman Women's Center, on the fourth floor, includes a beautiful mammography center. JFK was the first in Palm Beach County to be accredited by the American College of Radiologists. In 1996, the new center was the first in South Florida and one of only 30 in the country to provide the ABBI system for stereotactic biopsy. Our specially trained, certified mammography technologists perform accurate, safe and low dose diagnostic mammograms and offer breast self examination education to thousands of women each year.
